The work explores issues regarding the relationship between center and periphery, representation, location and identity. By depicting rural life, often regarded as peripheral, the book project aims to question and problematize the urban norm. The book was launched in April 2015 on a release tour in an old black Volvo 740, pimped with flames and gold stars. With books and a camping table in the trunk, the car stopped at places like gas stations, supermarkets and libraries. Several of the locations that are portrayed in the book were included in the tour schedule. At each stop, the public was offered coffee and a chance to leaf through the book. Keep the Change” Sara Linderoth explores her father’s personal history. He left the American military in the 1960’s and moved to Sweden a few years later. The work delves into the visual American culture where symbols and signs play an important role. Radioactive fallout was carried by the wind and fell over parts of Sweden. Traces still remain in the ground and in the collective consciousness. Autoradiograph experimentsDarkroom experiments with large format film and samples of mushrooms and plants collected near Lake Hillesjön, Gävle Municipality. The samples were dried and placed together with the film in light-tight bags. Locations: The Modern Museum, Stockholm, Sweden / Home of my friend Sandra, Fränsta, Sweden A big screen and a camera was placed outside the bar of the Modern Museum in Stockholm, where a Skype call was carried out between me and my friend Sandra. She was having a party at her place in Fränsta, a small locality in northern Sweden. Throughout the evening the guests in Stockholm and Fränsta communicated through written notes and discussed things such as the weather and snowmobiles. The work aimed to explore, in a playful way, the gaze (the act of seeing and being seen) and how we can take part in the way we are perceived by others. Och jag skulle sakna dem alla (2013) “Och jag skulle sakna dem alla” is a photographic series that deals with the changing population patterns in Sweden, from a personal standpoint. Since 2005 the country has had the quickest rate in urban growth in Europe. Although the city is often posed as a desirable living alternative, the effects of urbanization can force individuals of the rural population to reluctantly move for jobs or education. The photographs are made in Fränsta, a locality in northern Sweden, were Sara Linderoth lived for a number of years. Genar över åkrarna, sparar tid, för det skymmer. Över bron går jag, förbi järnvägsspåret. Dom säger att svenskarna är bäst i Europa på att flytta från landsbygden. Att vi urbaniseras snabbast av alla. Och jag, jag fångas av skogen. Av barken, barren. Varje enskilt träd i sig men också kollektivet. Stammarna. Passerar huset som Marias mamma flyttade till. Förbi slänten där alla trädgrenar låg uppstaplade och itusågade i våras, efter stormen. Stormen tog mycket skog, tydligen.
